History
Founded by a member of the T & R Theakston Ltd family following the takeover of Theakstons by Scottish & Newcastle PLC, this brewery was opened in September 1992. It is located in the old maltings of Lightfoot's brewery. Much of the plant came from Hartleys (Ulverston) Ltd and has been expanded on a number of occasions to keep up with demand. The brewery was taken over by Keystone Brewing Group in the summer of 2024 and subsequently taken over by the Great British Drinks Company (Paramount Retail Group) in early 2026.

Since the 1974 local government reorganisation there has been much controversy over many county boundaries.
